CHAPTER FIVE
For the umpteenth time, Andrea checked his wristwatch. It was the second time that Christine would keep him waiting. He had sent Matthew as he had promised but he had not seen any of them return. Although Matthew would not enter the ballroom, Christine was yet to make an appearance. He was at a table set out for six people. He had thought it wise to have a seat close to Christine but not on the same table. He would not like to have any suspicion raised about her. He had made sure that she got the invitation letter through Matthew. What he had conveniently kept away from her was that he was the host of the party. Anna played the role of the perfect hostess to a tee. She was dressed in a beautiful red gown that hung to her curves as if it was begging for life. Before he started suspecting her, he would have had his eyes glued to her features. However, he was presently distracted. Anna caught his eyes, and he smiled at her before she sashayed out of his vision again to only-God-knows-where. She was aware of the ladiesâ eyes on her man, but she knew he belonged to no other. Christine stood at the entrance of the door adorned in a long gold gown. The cloth fit her perfectly, molding her into an ethereal figure before falling freely from her knees to the floor. She gave off the hour-glass figure without a fall. He felt irresistibly drawn to her but managed to pull his eyes away from her. Her jewelry was simple. She had a good taste, and he could see that even though he was far away from her. A diamond pendant set in gold chain with matching earrings were her choice. Her hair was set up in a beautiful but intricate design on her head. She only allowed some tendrils to fall freely, completing her look. He could not see her footwear, but she appeared taller. So, Andrea suspected that she was on heels. He was sure that if he continued to stare at her, people would soon notice. Apparently, he was not the only one who saw her entrance as many of the males ogled her. Andrea was surprised to find that he was slightly irritated at their reactions. Why did he have such a strong response to someone that was not even his friend in the
